Delaney Pond in Winter

Skidding silver
blades,
new skates stiff,
rejecting
stockinged feet
pushing,
final thrust
feels the
hugging shoe.
Crackle
brittle ice
blue air clear,
without a cloud
of doubt,
frosty gusts
kept out of ears
wool covered,
fingers mittened,
precariously
sliding steps
find balance,
forward,
effortless.
